What types of variable stars exist in our universe? Variable stars are the first step to understanding the night sky. They have many uses, from being one of the first rungs on the distance ladder to revealing secrets about galaxy formation. We want to build a catalog of thousands of known variables. The Zooniverse platform, allows us to leverage the power of citizen science and crowd sourcing. We present graphs of various stars for users to classify. Once this is complete, these classificaitons are given to a machine learning algorithm to take over the job of classifying. Machine learning is critical because of the upcoming LSST telescope |
